The Story of Cherokee Bill Part 2

Tags: ,

Cherokee Bill had two weaknesses-his temper and his fondness for women and when you put the two together it just naturally spelled trouble. Now, Cherokee Bill had done his fair share of killin’ in the last year or so; but in his last robbery he had shot and killed an innocent bystander. That really set folks up in arms and determined to bring Cherokee Bill to justice-one way or another.

Cherokee Bill had a fancy for a particular young lady and was quite anxious to meet her. Some of the deputies who were hot on his trail got together and decided this would be the perfect chance to nab the young gunman. They got the young lady to invite the smitten fella to dinner and after he fell asleep, they just snuck in and tied him up, then hauled him off to jail.

Although he tried to get out of it by getting’ his lawyer to tie things up with appeals and even attempted to break out of jail once; Cherokee Bill made his way to the gallows on St. Patrick’s Day; 1896. Rumor has it that when he was asked if he had any last words, the gunman who had terrorized Indian Territory and took countless lives, said “Nope, I came here to die; not make a speech.”
